April 28, 2005 - I receive a check from the subject. The envelope is post marked out of San Diego, CA. I open the top of the envelope in order to read the information printed on the check, however, I did not touch the check in order to preserve any fingerprint evidence. The check is written on a business account under the name of “Masterpiece International LTD.” who is located at 39 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10006. It is drawn on the JP Morgan Chase Bank located at 55 Water Street, New York, NY 10041
April 29, 2005 - I contacted the JP Morgan Chase Bank (914-993-2210) and spoke with Masterpiece International LTD account representative, “Lisa.” After providing her with the check number, account number and routing number, she informed me that the check was fraudulent and not valid and she would contact her client at Masterpiece International LTD. with my contact information.
May 3, 2005 - I received a phone call from James Prudente with Masterpiece International LTD. who thanked me for bringing this to their attention and requested that I provide him via e-mail with a case number from my local law enforcement officials so that it can be cross referenced with the NYPD’s investigation. Apparently he has encountered other instances similar to this involving other entertainers and this “Steven Pale” individual and the whole thing is under investigation.
May 9, 2005 - I report the situation to local law enforcement and turn over the check and all of the e-mails from the subject to Detective Rodney Chauncey of the Polk County Florida Sheriffs Office. Their case number is: 05-78178
