From a Distance
You bring out a sealed prediction envelope and allow a spectator to hold it. A spectator is given two objects, for example, sticky notes, and told to place them on a wall. The spectator is free to adjust the position of the two objects. You bring out a tape measure and measure the distance between the two objects, which is read out loud by the spectator for all to hear. When the envelope is opened, your written prediction states the exact distance.
Going to Great Lengths
The trick, thanks to a clever gimmick, is not difficult to learn and perform. As the ads state, there are no funny moves, difficult sleights or switches. At the end, with some minor clean-up, you can freely hand out the measured objects and tape measure so they may be examined. While the ads states that the trick may be performed close-up, it's mainly a stand-up style effect because of the distances involved. The DVD offers clear instructions. The props are well made and durable.
Going the Distance
There are lots of possibilities for this effect that Palter mentions, however, he only teaches the handling for a specific situation. It would have been nice to hear his advice on performing in other situations, such as in a bar when measuring the distance between two beer bottles. If an interactive mentalism-style prediction sounds like a great addition to your act, you may want to hone in on Jason Palter's "Space Between."
