Review: Party time With Magic Dave

If you want to see a first rate children entertainer in action, watch Dave Allen's "party time With Magic Dave." This DVD is not your standard here’s a trick and how to perform it DVD, but a complete record of Allen’s two-hour performance at a kids party from when he arrives and unloads his car, to the end when he packs his car and leaves.

Two Hour Tour

I find Dave Allen to be something of an anomaly, which is a positive thing. From what I've seen in Southern California, entertainers who lead kids in games and activities and then try and perform a magic show are mostly awful to horrible magicians.

Allen, on the other hand, leads fantastic activities that include: follow-alongs, dances and games and then puts on a great magic show. I don’t know of any magicians in my area who lead with games and then follow-up with a show to perform for up to two hours. But perhaps this is the way things are done in the UK.

This DVD shows the games and activities that Allen does with the kids for the first hour and his magic show in the second hour. You’ll not only see his routines, but you'll learn a lot about managing young audiences, which Allen does with authority and style.

If you're not interested in the games and activities, you can learn about Allen’s show on his other DVD, "Bish Bash Bosh by Magic Dave," which is probably a better bet because you get to see his explanations.

In the end, if you're working with kids, you can probably learn a thing or two from Dave Allen.
