The Vanishing Prediction
You bring out a small pay envelope and explain that there's a prediction inside of it. A spectator selects a card which is mixed back into the pack. You bring out a sheet of clear acetate from the envelope and show that nine different cards are printed on it. You admit that you hedged your prediction but verify with the spectator that his card is shown on the sheet. Now the two-phased magic occurs. While the spectator holds the clear sheet between his hands, the image of her card disappears. And when the pack is examined, his selected card has also vanished.
The Envelope, Please
The basic effect is not difficult to learn and perform and requires minimal sleight of hand. The trick comes with the materials that you'll need to perform the trick and there are two different card revelations. There's no apparent reason for printing a prediction on a sheet of clear acetate, but this is probably a minor issue. As mentioned earlier, my real reservation lies in the durability of the gimmicked envelopes. Since I sometimes perform with pay envelopes during my strolling sets, I know that I can wreck these in just a weekend of pulling them from my pockets. Of course, one can take extra care with the envelopes to make them last longer, but they will eventually wear out.
There's More
If you like, Sankey teaches lots of variations that include the selected card turning blank and more. He also teaches you different sleights to support these variations. In typical Sankey style, he covers everything in thorough detail on the DVD.This is a clever and commercial idea that should play well. Just watch those envelopes.
