The Moving Pictures
To start, Director's Cut offers a set of 26 cards that display miniature poster reproductions of some of the cinemas best known movies. There are pop culture favorites such as "Top Gun," "Pretty Woman" and more. And there are classics such as "Vertigo," "Wizard of Oz" and "Casablanca." Here, I wish that the movies could be of a consistent era or genre for more thematic possibilities. The backs are blank. The cards are attractive and high quality, printed in full color and laminated for durability. Technically, the movie cards feature no gaffs or markings and can be freely examined. The secret lies in a clever stack thats built into the deck.
With the Movies
The accompanying DVD offers first rate instruction to teach you five tricks that allow you to perform predictions, muscle reading and remote viewing. On the one hand, the ads are correct when they state that you can perform mentalism with an interesting and popular premise. On the other hand, the effects are standard and simple card tricks that have been applied to the movie cards.
Granted, it's interesting to mysteriously discern a picture on a chosen card, for example, the giant shark in "Jaws" than it is to simply name the "two of clubs." But I'm not sure that a movie-themed select-a-card plays all that much stronger than the standard card trick. I was disappointed because I expected a clever and diabolical trick that made the most of the movie theme.
Unless you've got a killer card effect that can be based on the movies on these cards, I recommend that you pass. I wouldn't drop fifty bucks on the ad's simplistic promise of "seriously strong mentalism."
