Review: Invisible by Jay Sankey

About.com Rating 4

By Wayne Kawamoto, About.com

With "Invisible," Jay Sankey takes on the well known "Invisible Deck." If you are interested in learning more about this trick and mastering some subtleties and want to benefit from Sankey's advice on making the effect more convincing, "Invisible" offers a thorough treatment of the topic.

Reversed

In basic "Invisible Deck," a spectator freely names a card. The magician brings out a deck and shows that the only card in the deck that is reversed, facing in the opposite direction, is the selected card.

The DVD comes with an "Invisible Deck" (Ultra Mental Deck), but it's the accompanying DVD that serves the in-depth and useful information. Here you'll learn the basic routine, as well as subtleties, techniques and convincers that can improve the effect.

Not Invisible

I particularly liked Sankey's variations on the overall effect that incorporated business cards, ropes, wrapping paper and envelopes, and routines that bring in other elements such as names and employ excellent convincers. Sankey also teaches some sleight of hand to perform the trick without the gimmicked deck.

So who will like this DVD? If you're just starting out with "Invisible Deck," you'll welcome this comprehensive introduction that leaves no stone or card unturned. If you already perform "Invisible Deck," you may learn a thing or two that can improve your routine. And if you're tired of performing "Invisible Deck" in the same manner as almost every magician on the planet, you may gain some fresh new ideas here.
