This mentalism style effect has potential. Despite the fact that a spectator is encouraged to lie, you can always determine his or her freely chosen card under seemingly controlled conditions.

The Selection

You invite a spectator to shuffle and spread the deck face down and slide out a single cards. The spectator then divides the deck into two piles and buries his card into either half. This half-deck is dropped into the card case.

You turn your head and remove a single card and ask the spectator to say something about the card, which may be the truth or a lie. Despite the lying, you identify the spectator’s card and can state it's value and suit without looking at it.

Two Facets

This tricks consists of two feats: 1) the ability to determine the value of a freely selected card and 2) identify the card in your hand as the one that spectators selected. While this one will play strong to lay audiences, it should play strong to other magicians.

This one is not difficult to learn and perform, however, the instructions could be more informative. This one requires no sleights and the props may be examined to a certain degree. The trick is all in the cards that come with the trick, as well as a couple other gimmicks. Reset can be quick, depending on the method that you choose to use.

This one can play well to audiences.
