Review of Psychedelic Foursome
"Psychedelic Foursome," a packet trick, offers a variation on classic “twisting the aces.” The kicker comes at the end when the four cards are shown to have different colored backs, although they appeared to have the same backs throughout. At the end, you’re left completely clean and spectators may examine the cards.

Do the Twist
In classic twisting fashion, you show four cards and in sequence, a single card: heart, clubs, diamonds and then spades, mysteriously turns over one after the other. The handling is not difficult, but it’s definitely for those with card handling skills.

As with many packet effects, there’s some memorization that’s required with cards being shown one way in one segment and then in a different way in another, as well as variations on the placement of cards. The effect requires a quad lift that may be scary for less experienced magicians.

The written instructions are clear and easy to follow. The kit also comes with the necessary cards in Bicycle backs.

Marooned
Interestingly, the cards that I received where maroon-colored Bicycle backs. Since I have no maroon-colored Bicycle decks and have no plans to purchase such a deck for performing (I’m strictly a red and blue-backed Bicycles kind of guy), I can’t secretly insert the cards into a regular deck and then bring them out for the trick - a downside. I have a feeling that the main color of the backs in each kit will vary.

Overall, I find “Psychedelic Foursome” to be an improvement over a classic “twisting the aces” routine as there’s fun and unexpected ending. It’s a viable new twist in a card classic.
