Free Choices
You ask a spectator to freely select a book from several that are available. Another spectator is given or forced this gimmicked book. Your second spectator is asked to freely open the book, The Miracle Mongers by Harry Houdini, and call out the page that they turned to. This chosen page number becomes the page that the first spectator, in classic book test fashion, opens and reads. You then tell the spectator what he is seeing on that page. The gimmicked book allows you perform a Hoy-style book test but takes it a step further as the page number is generated by a spectator and not you. And the spectator is not a stooge.
Simple and Effective
The book can withstand casual examination and is easy to work with. Theres no complicated index or system to memorize and no calculations, the Houdini book does all of the work for you. And the book itself is an interesting read. While I'm a big fan of Devin Knights Double Coincidence book test, I found Houdini Book Test to be an elegant and powerful tool that is clean, simple and convincing, and lets you perform a book test with any books that you wish to work with. This one is really good.
