DVD Review: Sleight Of Hand With Coins by Jay Sankey
For beginning and intermediate magicians, Jay Sankey offers his "Sleight of Hand With Coins" DVD that explains lots of vanishes, productions and coin switches, along with splits, a matrix with playing cards, classic coins across ("Winged Silver") and more. In all, there are 17 effects and 24 sleights.

Utilities

Sankey offers utility moves that go well beyond those that you would find in a beginner’s book. In addition to the utilities, Sankey teaches a classic coin roll where you roll a single coin over your knuckles and a four coin rollout where you take a stack of four coins and separate the coins so one lies between each finger. There’s also a short section devoted to lapping.

As in Sankey’s “International Collection,” Sankey doesn’t talk, but silently performs and explains each technique. The approach works. And to attribute the moves, he provides credits at the DVD’s end. however, I think it would have been far better for him to present a title that names the move or creator as he’s teaching the move or routine.

Silent Sankey

The video is well done and offers lots of angles. You can learn the moves by following the instructions here.

If you’re an experienced coin worker who already knows four or five vanishes and understands basic spellbound and coin productions, you’ll know many of the moves here. But if you’re just starting out with coins, you’ll probably find lots to like and probably learn some techniques that can form the core of your repertoire.
