More of a quick, throwaway gag than an actual trick, Corey Burke’s “Five Finger Discount” is a security tag, just like those that you find fastened to clothing in stores, that you can quickly attach to a spectator’s jacket.

The device is an actual security tag that has been doctored so it attaches by a magnet and not a pin. This way, you can quickly attach and detach it to anyone’s jacket for a laugh. This one is super easy to perform.When you greet a spectator, you can open their jacket and plant the device, and it will look as if they stole it. The device is also funny attached to your own jacket. There are lots of comedic possibilities here.
But There's More
In his instructions, Burke explains a second effect where a dollar bill is borrowed and the magician comments about new anti-counterfeiting measures. The magician appears to stab the clothing security tag through the bill and then “rips” it out. Like the many devices, pens and such, which rely on a similar principle, this one makes a great sound when it “rips” out. However, the effect is not as strong as a gaffed pen that spectators see on both sides of the bill.I recall a similar effect from a couple of years back-the name escapes me, where a chosen and signed card is found inside of the magician’s jacket, stuck in the security tag. It’s an entertaining option that can also be performed with Burke’s well made gimmick.
