Torn and Restored
With all of the torn and restored card tricks out there--Reparation and their ilk where a card thats torn into quarters is visually restored, piece by piece--Robsons Torn & Restored Card offers a simple and direct approach that is refreshingly different. A freely selected card is chosen, signed and returned to the deck. The magician places the deck behind his back to try and find the card without looking. The deck is brought back out and the card is ripped into four pieces and a corner is given to the spectator. Immediately, the selected card is found restored in the deck, but its missing a corner. The spectator finds that the corner he has been holding matches exactly. This one is strong, but I dont care for the work behind the back. Perhaps its just me. But I dont like to take a deck out of spectators view to do something. I think it detracts from the magic.
More Advice
The ads state that Robson talks about approaching groups, getting your fee, dealing with clients, safe prop storage and more. However, I found that with the exception of his discussion on approaching groups, most segments were far too short and unsatisfying. I wanted to learn more from Robsons considerable experience and would have appreciated a discussion on handling difficult situations when things go wrong. Robson offers some funny stories that recall incidents in his long career. Some of these are hilarious.Harry Robsons Magic Under Fire is well grounded in reality. I can relate to many of the situations that Robson presents as I have run into similar ones myself. I give Robson lots of credit for demonstrating what real-world close-up work is like.
