Trick Review: Crystal Vision by Pieras Fitikides

An intriguing new concept that updates the classic swami writer, “Crystal Vision” allows you to make on-the-spot predictions that appear on a laminated card that’s sealed within an envelope. The envelope is sealed and completely legitimate. The technique and prop are intriguing, but the results can only be viewed under good lighting.

Crystal Card

The prop, the “Crystal Card,” is a laminated card about the size of a Poker-sized playing card that is filled with a green field. It looks like nothing that most have seen before, but its different look can play in its favor. It can be a modern day crystal ball that’s been miniaturized or a slice of a mysterious rock that reveals thoughts.

A spectator freely names a number or symbol and the magician’s prediction is found to be written on the card that is inside of a sealed envelope.

Light the Way

I generally like the trick, but found that it has to be performed under good lighting. In my rather dark restaurants, the card could not be read or made out. Furthermore, I’m not sure that this effect is an improvement over the classic “swami” technique that relies on the traditional props. By the way, unlike a traditional swami effect that involves paper and pencil, the prop may be used again and again with no need to replace anything.

The trick comes with the gimmicked card and the necessary props. As with any effect that relies on a Swami writer, this one requires some practice.
