Review: Wounded by Robert Smith

About.com Rating threehalf out of Five

If you've ever wanted to bleed from the middle of your palms or cry tears of red blood, you may enjoy the freakout fest that is Robert Smith’s "Wounded." This one is definitely not for everyone and the DVD teaches clever methods that range from fairly conventional to outright outlandish.

Stigmata

The main effects offer a variation on a "stigmata"-creating marks on your hands that resemble the wounds that result from crucifixion. In this trick, the palms of your hands appear to bleed in front of your audiences.

The DVD teaches three bleeding palm effects. All require special apparatus and items that you’ll need to purchase. None are overly expensive. There's also an accompanying kit that is sold separately and includes the necessary apparatus and retails for $34.95. Despite the serious theme, this is basically geek magic.

Blood

One method causes the appearance of ultra-realistic "blood." Let's just say that you and spectators won't be able to tell the difference and hygiene considerations come into play. I'm not sure that there are many who will want to perform this one as it's not for the faint of heart.

The DVD explains Smith's method for crying tears of blood, as well as a way to stop your pulse. As you might expect, the methods involve your eyes and heart rate. Perform at your own risk.

Heartfelt?

None of the effects are difficult to learn and perform. More important, the material here is not for everyone and don't even consider these effects if you are not in the best of health or have allergies or other ailments. I'll leave the considerable warnings for the DVD.

I can appreciate the thought and research that has gone into the effects on this DVD. However, they are not everyone's cup of tea or blood, because of the effects, themes and methods.
