In his "Bob Does Hospitality" DVD set, which comes in three separate volumes, Sheets offers nine close-up effects, three per DVD, which are designed for strolling or table hopping.
Three DVDs, Three Acts
In theory, each DVD teaches an entire act that you can perform at a table. And with three DVDs, you'll have three complete acts for three different tables and wont repeat a trick. In this review, I'll focus on Act 2.The routines are designed to be easy to carry in your pockets and none are knuckle busters. But the tricks do require some fundamental mastery of close-up and card techniques.
Triumph
Act 2 begins with a coin trick. Triple Transpo is classic copper, silver and brass. The routine features a series of stunning transpositions using the well known set of coins and Sheets has a great way of allowing coins to be examined and then ringing in the gimmicked set. This one is strong.Gotcha is Sheets' take on classic Triumph. However, this one features three strong phases, great audience interaction and a sucker segment that ends in a surprise. Furthermore, the trick is easy to learn and perform as Sheets relies on a gimmicked deck.
If you have ever wanted to entertain with Triumph, this is one to consider.
An Opener
Offering a take on Whit Haydn's "Chicago Opener," Red Hot Moma makes some subtle changes that result in equally great reactions. Sheet's version allows for more interaction and decisions on the part of spectators. If you already perform a "Chicago Opener" ala Whit Haydn, you may not find enough here to make you want to change over. This is the case for me. But if youve been thinking about adding such an effect to your repertoire, Sheets' version may be worth a look.
