The magician borrows a quarter and places it on the back of his hand. After twisting the coin the into the back of his hand, the coin is found to have disappeared. It’s apparently stuck inside of the hand and the magician can show his hands open with the fingers spread apart. The hand is then closed and when it’s opened, is found to be holding the coin.

Anytime, Anywhere

As the ads state, this one can be performed sitting or standing; it instantly resets and relies on no gimmicks such as tape or sticky compounds, pulls or magnets. Also, it doesn’t rely on sleeves or pockets. The effect is quite good and you can watch it by clicking here.

Literally, all you need are your two hands and a quarter. Yes, you can perform this just about anytime and anywhere. But this goes for lots of coin and card tricks.

I was already familiar with the “secret” used in this effect. There is no attribution for the secret on the DVD and I’m not aware of any potential ownership. The secret is not unusual as there are several similar ideas explained in Bobo’s “Modern Coin Magic.”

The angles are limited to an audience that is directly in front of you. If you’ve got spectators to your right or left, you won’t be able to perform the effect. There’s no complicated sleight of hand as most of the moves are straightforward, so this one is good for beginners.

The Secret

The DVD explains the trick with a quarter but you can use a larger coin. I originally learned the secret using a half-dollar. But the larger and heavier the coin, the more difficult the effect is to perform. This effect could probably be accomplished with a silver dollar-sized coin if you are determined enough.

This is the kind of effect that looks great in a video segment, but it’s fast and happens in just a few seconds. The trick could work as a part of a longer coin routine, but it’s probably not all that satisfying to viewers as a stand-alone effect. And they’ll certainly ask you to “do it again.”

Is Bobo Better?

If you love this vanish and reproduction and really want to perform it, by all means, buy the DVD and learn it. But if you’re serious about coin magic, for the money, you’re better off referring to the wealth of knowledge in Bobo’s “Modern Coin Magic.”
