A fantastic and visual stage illusion that requires no assistants and packs into a single box or case, Andrew Mayne’s “Bisection” is a stunner. The magician walks out onto the stage and with the cover of a cloth curtain that is lifted from the ground, makes the upper half of his body momentarily disappear.
The audience sees the stump of the magician at waist level above the curtain that seems to walk towards them. At the end, the magician restores his body and comes out intact.
Another Mayne Winner
Mayne is a creative genius who continually comes up with new angles and illusions. I really like this one as it’s fresh and different and completely unexpected. Don’t take my word for it, you can watch the video by clicking here
The illusion is not difficult to perform but takes practice Mayne also offers several variations for different situations, including “Bisection 360," a version that may be performed surrounded in the middle of a crowd (with some distance) and a trench coat version that is more difficult because of the reduced angles.
Get It Together
This DVD offers video plans that explain how to put together Bisection using simple materials that you purchase from hardware and clothing stores. There’s some investment in props that shouldn’t run over $100, depending on the materials that you choose. The construction requires basic tools that most should have and shouldn’t take more than a few hours.
As in all of Mayne’s DVDs that I’ve reviewed, he offers clear and insightful instructions. You should encounter no problems building your prop and performing with it.
