Trick Review: Any Ring by Richard Sanders

By , About.com Guide

Not a trick in itself but a useful prop, “Any Ring” takes the well known ring-vanishing handkerchief and makes it far more flexible.

A Ringer

In the standard, well known trick, a borrowed finger ring is placed under a handkerchief and the spectator holds her ring through the material. The spectator feels his/her ring until the last second. When the spectator lets go and the handkerchief is removed, the ring disappears. Of course, after the ring is vanished, the magician produces the ring from anyplace he or she wishes (your choice and method).

The problem with traditional ring vanishing handkerchiefs is that you could only vanish a specific size ring. This meant that performers had to often search for someone in their audiences who owned the right-sized ring.

One Size Fits All

“Any Ring” integrates a tapered gimmick, which, depending on how it’s held, can act as a delicate lady’s engagement ring, or a man’s bulky signet band. It’s a brilliant idea that greatly improves the traditional prop.

The gimmicked prop is a quality one in standard black. The accompanying instructions offer clear-cut steps for handling the handkerchief and vanishing the ring, as well as a routine where a ring is made to disappear and re-appear on a pen.

Ring Be Gone

If you already vanish a ring using this method and often have to search for the right ring, “Any Ring” is worth the look. And if you’re developing a routine where you want to vanish a ring, you should consider the reasonably-priced “Any Ring.”
