Trick Review: Timecard by Gordon Bean

About.com Rating 5

By , About.com Guide

Here's another brilliant trick from Gordon Bean. It's a powerful and surprising prediction effect that's been combined with a card revelation.

Time and Space

A spectator is asked to name any time that's on the hour or half hour and then selects a card. When you later locate the spectator's card you take it out of the deck and lay it down on his or her hand. And when the card is turned over, the time that they freely named is written on its back.

If you like, you can ask spectators to name the time after the card is selected, which is how I've been performing the trick. The designated time is a completely free choice and the selection of the card is seemingly fair.

It's in the Cards

The gimmicked cards are printed on standard Bicycle stock playing cards. The trick doesn't require a table so it's great for walk-around settings and it automatically resets as you put it away.

The cards are seen from the front and back throughout the routine and the revelation of the time is stunning-the numbers appear to come from nowhere. While this is a close-up effect, the times are written in characters that can be seen from stage.

Surprisingly, the trick is not difficult to learn and perform. There are a few things to remember and sequences to practice, but the gimmicked deck performs most of the work for you.

In Good Time

The instructions are in-depth and well written and not only cover every aspect of performing the trick, but provides pictures, as well as background information on the trick's development. As with "Bikers," we recommend that all publishers look at Bean's instructions as a model of helpful and insightful written instructions.

This effect has lots of presentation possibilities. I've been performing it all weekend and it's gotten spectacular responses.

This is another winner from Gordon Bean and it's a definite keeper. Actually, you can say that it's a time-keeper.
