Shimmering Light
Scotty's Light Bulb is an intriguing effect where York uses a light bulb thats wrapped inside of a napkin to make a lie detector that can help find a card. The trick is visual and offers lots of interaction. This one involves a gaffed bulb that youll have to purchase and switch out at the routines end. York appears to give away the light bulb to spectators as a souvenir. In Spin the Bottle,York performs a card trick with a novel device, a bottle thats mounted on a pivot. As the title implies, this routine is based on the old party game and in the end, a womans blown kiss marks a selected and signed card with lips. I was impressed with the effect, however, the method doesnt allow you to give away the signed and marked (with lips) card at the end. This probably wont make sense to spectators.
Razor's Edge
No-Switch Razor Stab is Yorks version of Richard Himbers effect where a razor is inserted into a card box with some cards. The card box is shaken and when the cards are dumped out, the only card that is not cut is the previously selected and signed card. Finally, The Gypsies is Yorks version of Gypsies Curse, a transposition between kings and number cards in the course of playing a gambling game.York is a masterful story teller and entertainer. And by watching York and his interaction with his audiences, one can learn a lot about entertaining in bars. Its easy to see why York is such a smashing success.
My favorites on this DVD were The Rose Trick, Scottys Light Bulb and the set with the combined ace tricks. This DVD featured lots of packet tricks that with the exception of Yorks compelling patter, began to blend together. Despite this, the DVD offers some worthwhile effects.
