A magician borrows a glass and a coin. While holding the coin in one hand, the lower-side of the glass is tapped on the coin and instantly, the coin is found to be resting at the bottom of the glass. The coin may be marked by spectators as there is no gimmick or second coin involved. This is a stunner. You can watch a video of the effect at the Ellusionist web site.
The effect can work as a stand-alone stunt, or you can perform it in conjunction with other effects. Classic coins to glass are an obvious choice, and Ellusionist says that Infusion can be used as an intro or follow-up to Criss Angels Quarter in Soda Can (look for an upcoming review here at Magic.about.com). The DVD also explains a terrific variation where the coin ends-up in a borrowed and empty Snapple bottle.
Borrow the Glass
The move isnt difficult, but theres a definite knack to consistently and reliably performing it. While I didnt try other objects, you can also use small items such as rings and keys.
Geir Bratlie, who originated the effect, offers excellent explanation on this DVD. And Brad Christian offers additional tips to get you quickly up and running. You only get one effect on this DVD, but its reasonably priced at $15.95. (its also available as a download from Ellusionist.com for a dollar less.)
Infusion offers a mesmerizing and fast effect where a coin penetrates a glass. The effect is convincing and you start and end completely clean. If it fits into your close-up set, definitely take a look.
