DVD Review: Criss Angel Self Levitation

About.com Rating fourhalf out of Five

The DVD is very thorough. Angel and Yolan Pinter, his technical consultant, discuss and demonstrate every aspect of building the gimmick-even discussing the grain’s direction on the fabric. After putting together the gimmick, Angel walks you through the technique of seemingly floating in air.

The box says that materials will cost about $125, but that the entire gimmick can be built for less than $300. It’s hard to determine how Angel’s team arrived at these costs, but the high-end of the estimate probably includes the amount spent on a seamstress. With the cost of the DVD, which is $100, you’ll probably spend between $225 and $425 for your levitation illusion, and this will depend on your sewing skills. It’s a reasonable amount to spend on an illusion that you regularly use.

I really like this levitation. As with any illusion, it has its limitations. But this one can serve you well. And just imagine how fun it will be to float up off the ground when a smart aleck spectator says “can you levitate like that guy on TV?”
