While the effect appears fairly convincing, I find the combination of the card effect with a penetration to be a mixed and confusing approach. And the spectators in the demonstration portion of the DVD don't seem all that freaked out or even impressed.
Through the Finger
A spectator chooses a card and signs her name on the face. You tear a hole large enough for your finger and write your initials on the card. You bring out two cards that have been stapled together and also have holes and slide the spectator's card between the two cards. You've effectively created a "sandwich" - two cards with a card in-between and the holes lined up.You slide your finger through the three holes. The spectator pulls the middle card and is able to remove it. The card has somehow passed through your finger. The signed card may be examined and given away as a souvenir.
Pointing Out
The trick is a single phase penetration that is not hard to setup and perform. Because of the angles, this probably does not work well when spectators are sitting and you are standing. You will have to make a gimmick, which only requires common household tools-a stapler, glue and box cutters. While I think an object passing through a finger can be a strong effect, I find the setup on this one confusing and convoluted. If you could actually penetrate your finger with a card, would you: really have a spectator select a card and sign it and then place the card into a gimmick that's been stapled and such? Wouldn't you simply take a card and place it between two other cards with holes, stick your finger through and then pull the card through? Now that may be a decent trick.
Just Passing Through?
My reaction to this effect was as tepid as that of the spectators in the DVD's performance segment. One other thing, I've seen this trick before. It's been marketed for years and is a better effect because of an element of danger. It's a "finger chopper."Bone Saw is an interesting idea with a great name, but as it stands, it's just not making the cut.
