In this amusing close-up effect, you appear to "twist" a disposable lighter right in front of spectators. The routine starts as a prediction, but ends in a visual metaphysical feat. It's easy to perform, requires no sleight of hand and offers a surprising conclusion.
Pick an Object
The magician displays three everyday objects, for example, a coin, lighter and key, and a prediction thats in an envelope. The spectator freely chooses any of the three objects. In typical magic fashion, the spectator somehow chooses the lighter. The lighter is picked up by the spectator and handed to the magician.
When the envelope is open and the enclosed card displayed, the magician shows that the chosen object, the lighter, matches the picture on the prediction. The spectator, however, is quick to point out that the picture on the prediction card shows a twisted lighter, one that has been physically distorted.
The Twist
With this suggestion, the magician twists the lighter in front of spectators to match the prediction. At the end, the magician shows a disposable lighter thats made of hard plastic that is twisted in the middle (see picture). This twisted lighter may be freely examined by spectators as there is nothing to find.

The Plot Twist
The trick comes with the gimmicked lighter, a standard lighter, a prediction card and instruction sheet. The trick is not difficult to perform and there is no sleight of hand. Because of the way that the routine is structured, the dirty work is executed at a point where most spectators have let down their guard.
This one is great for beginners. The only downside, it would have been nice for the prediction card to be of a higher quality. The cardboard looks rather unprofessional. This effect will work in any situation where you need a lighter. However, while you can spark either lighter, you cant actually get a flame out of them because they lack lighter fluid.
Mind Twister is an offbeat and entertaining effect that keeps spectators guessing. Its certainly something different.
