Review: Crystal Method

About.com Rating 4.5

By Wayne Kawamoto, About.com

With this set of gimmicks, you can perform a wide range of innovative effects with playing cards. The gimmick is a clear card that feels like a normal card but can act as an overlay to superimpose images on top of other cards and more. Also, there are lots of great ideas and applications on the DVD.

Crystalline

Using clear "crystal" cards, you can appear to transfer signatures from one playing card to another, cause a playing card to mysteriously vanish, allow spectators to insert cards behind their backs to find others and more.

I was particularly intrigued with the possibilities of transferring initials and signatures from one card to the other and the potential for powerful predictions.

In some effects, you reuse the gimmicks. In others, where spectators signed them, you will use up the gimmicks one at a time.

Crystal Clear?

As an overlay, the gimmick does make the playing card appear slightly different - the finish is not exactly the same, and it is something you can see when you're looking for it. But as long as you're not holding the gimmicked card next to a normal one, I think it's unlikely that spectators will notice.

The DVD features routines and performances by James Brown, Angelo Carbone, Steve Dela and more. The kit comes with 52 transparent cards. Just one warning, the DVD did not play in any of my DVD players and only worked on a computer’s DVD drive.

MSRP: $40.00
