All About One-Way Magic Decks

By , About.com Guide

Technically not magic cards because they aren't actually gimmicked, one-way decks have designs on the back that are oriented in a single direction. With these cards, a magician can have a card selected and returned to the deck in the opposite direction, which can then be easily found later.

Popular playing cards such as Bee, Bicycle and Tally Ho all have backs that are identical regardless of which way you look at them. It's rare for mainstream cards to have one-way back designs - you're far more likely to encounter these designs when dealing with decks that promote businesses or are souvenirs. It's also rare for experienced magicians to employ decks of this type in magic effects.
