Case to Playing Cards and Cards to Case - Freedom Deck and Mash PackMurphy's Magic
Magicians have long enjoyed bringing out a deck of playing cards and after applying a short shuffle, immediately showing that the cards are actually still in their box. And a logical variation would be to bring out a box of cards and suddenly show that the box has vanished and cards are all that remain in your hands. Two new magic products: Justin Miller's "Freedom Pack" and Garrett Thomas' "Mash Pack" provide gimmicks to perform such visual and stunning changes.

“Freedom”
“Freedom Pack” allows you to perform some magic with cards and then suddenly show that the cards are still in the box. As you can see in the video, the change is a stunner. After removing the cards from the box, you’re basically clean as the cards are normal.

While you can use “Freedom Pack” as an opener, Justin Miller has cleverly incorporated the gimmick into a routine, an ambitious card effect where the spectator’s card repeatedly jumps to the top of the deck, and then, the cards are instantly shown to be in the box.

The effect relies on clever gimmicking and the required moves are not difficult to learn or execute. Angles are generally good although you will have to watch them in the midst of performing for a group.

The gimmick will eventually wear out, however, you can later make your own as you need to from a card box. And the gimmick is not difficult or time-consuming to construct. The kit includes a first rate instructional DVD that teaches you everything that you need to know.

If you’re looking for such an effect, “Freedom Pack” delivers.

“Mash” Up
The “Mash Pack” provides a fast and furious opener for a card routine. You bring out a card box and in the blink of an eye, you’re openly spreading cards and the box has seemingly vanished. You can watch the video here.

The fantastic gimmicking effectively transforms the box into a spread of 52 single cards with little work on your part. And to get into your regular card routines, there’s only minimal work.

The kit comes with an informative instructional DVD and the cool “PH Box-Back Deck,” a second gimmicked deck and box that offer more card to box possibilities. This is all clever stuff and magicians will have a blast exploring the potential.

The Practical Side
I find both products to offer fun possibilities but feel that they’re more practical for formal close-up shows. When it comes to work-a-day walk-around, I probably wouldn’t give up other close-up props for such fast effects as I can only carry around so much in my pockets. But if I really wanted to add these effects to my restaurant sets, I could manage the room - switching out props as necessary.

I think that both “Freedom Pack” and “Mash Pack” are excellent products that provide strong visual changes. Both are the result of clever thinking and the application of brilliant gimmicks.
