Daryl's Odd Quad offers an excellent commercial card trick for beginners. The effect itself is quite good and it’s easy to learn and perform. And from a beginner’s perspective, the packet trick requires basic sleight of hand that allows you to work up your skills.

Best of all, at the end, you’re clean. After the effect, spectators can grab the cards and there's absolutely nothing to find. This is particularly good for those who are starting out in card magic and who want to go beyond the svengali deck.

You show four aces and ask a spectator to select one. The chosen ace is shown to be "odd" (different) because it's the only red backed card (the others are shown to be blue). You then demonstrate that had the spectator selected the blue-backed card, the others are all red. And if they had chosen the other cards? Well, they turn out to be yellow and green backed cards. At this point, everything may be examined.

The cards are ungimmicked and the trick relies completely on skill and execution. You could buy the cards on your own (they are produced by the U.S. Playing Card Company), but they will probably cost you more than the $12.95 for the trick.

The effect can be reset as you put it away. A consideration for some, the trick does require a table.

A plus with tricks by Daryl, you are provided with written instructions as well as video to watch the presentation and learn the trick – the best of both worlds. I tried this one out at my restaurants and the effect went over well.

For a low cost trick that is particularly great for beginners, I highly recommend this one.
