Review of Baffle Bat by Terry LaGerould

Murphy's Magic
I've never been a fan of paddle tricks that are a staple of beginning magic sets. Most employ odd-looking, unworldly props and the routines are typically contrived with end effects that are rarely awe-inspiring. While I still feel this way after reviewing Baffle Bat, I'm strangely intrigued by this prop. And at $20, I find it reasonably priced.

Two For One

The Baffle Bat, as you can see in the picture, is a double sided paddle, which comes with four magnetic spots that you can arrange any way that you wish. With the Bat, you perform the standard move, which allows for lots of possibilities to make spots magically appear, disappear, multiply, and jump from one end of the bat to the other.

The basic routine is easy to learn and perform. All you need to master is a single move that will serve you well in other effects, particularly color changing knives. And if you already know the move, you're good to go. The routine resets when you complete the trick.

Paddle Home

I'm not convinced that there's a great trick here, but I find myself wanting to play with the prop. Every magician has to experiment with a paddle effect sometime. It may as well be the Baffle Bat.

MSRP: (US) $20
