Beginner's Card Routine

By Wayne Kawamoto, About.com Guide

Here's a beginner's card routine that combines easy magic tricks that are taught here at Magic.About.com. You'll bring out a deck of cards, shuffle and cut the cards in magic fashion, find a spectator's card by making it rise from the deck and then cause some cards to magically adhere to your hand.

1. Shuffle the Cards

The routine begins with you bringing out a deck of cards and shuffling them.

2. Cut the Cards

The second phase has you cutting the cards using only one hand.

3. Find a Spectator's Card

In this phase you find a spectator's card.

4. The Rising Card

After you've (secretly) located the spectator's card, you cause it to magically rise from the deck.

5. The Magnetic Hand

In the final phase, you place some cards under your hand and they magically adhere to it. To accomplish this, you'll have to introduce a special card that is explained in this trick.

I recommend that you leave the special card in the box when you initially take out the cards in step one. After causing the spectator's card to rise in phase four, place all of the cards back into the box. Tell spectators that you'll do "one more." At this point, you can remove all of the cards, including the special card, and go into this trick.
