Here's the secret. When your audience looks down one end of the tube, the one with the smaller end of the cone, they see what looks like a normal cylinder. The opening at the back of the cylinder is actually smaller than it should be - the perspective is slightly off - but spectators won't notice.
From your side, when you look down the cylinder, you'll see a small, secret compartment that can hide things and you can pull objects out of.
