Easy Magic: The Nine- or 21-Card Trick

By Wayne Kawamoto, About.com

3 of 3

Deal the cards again into three face-up piles - in the same left to right order. The spectator's card will be the middle card in the middle pile. Or, instead of dealing the cards again, you can simply count the stack of cards-the spectator's card will be the fifth card from the top.

From here, you can simply pick out the card and show it to the spectator. Or you can glance at the card and then "read" your spectator's mind and reveal the card that they selected.

If you want to work with more cards, you may use a stack of 21 cards. The trick works in the exact same manner-at the end of the third deal, the spectator’s card will be the middle card in the middle stack, or the 11th card from the top of the deck.
