Here's a strong version of "ring on necklace." You remove a pull-tab from a can of soda and borrow a necklace. With the necklace closed, you quickly link the pull-tab onto the chain. You can then hand the necklace, with pull-tab, out for examination. If you like, the spectator can take the pull-tab as a souvenir. There is nothing to find.
Linking Things
The effect plays pretty much as it reads, although there is some adapting that you may have to do to accommodate different situations. This should not be daunting.
The effect is not difficult to perform and there are no expensive tools or gimmicks. The pull-tab and necklace are genuine and can be borrowed. While I was onto the method, it basically fooled me because I would not have been able to recreate it. The explanations on this DVD with its 20-minutes of footage are thorough.
For Strolling?
This is a fast and sweet effect that probably works best in casual situations where you are performing for people that you know. You could stroll with this in venues where there are cans of beer or soda, say at a picnic, but I think the borrowing of the necklace from a stranger can prove to be a problem. On the other hand, you could link the pull-tab to your own chain.
