Book Review: Restaurant Magic Reader by Jim Sisti

About.com Rating 4

By Wayne Kawamoto, About.com

The Restaurant Magic Reader (MSRP: $30.00, Murphy's) offers a compilation of useful articles and essays by Jim Sisti on restaurant magic.

Treatise on Table Hopping

Based on my experience working at restaurants, I found the material to be accurate and insightful. Some advice is mostly common sense, but many points could only be the result of hours and hours of performing. There are no magic, silver-bullet style revelations within the pages of this book, but there's great advice that everyone can probably learn from.

Within the pages of this book, you'll learn about topics such as choosing material, getting and keeping a restaurant magic engagement, working with the management and staff, handling problem spectators, promoting your work and more. There are no tricks that are taught in this book, it's all business.

Working Walkaround

I consider restaurant work to be regular, "in the trenches" work that has been a great boost to my walk around magic. As a result, while the book has "restaurant" in the title, I think that all magicians who perform or strive to perform walk-around and strolling magic can benefit from the advice in this book.
