Review: Jeff McBride - A Magickal Life by Donna Zuckerbrot

About.com Rating 4

By Wayne Kawamoto, About.com

A documentary about Jeff McBride as opposed to an instructional magic DVD, "Jeff McBride - A Magickal Life." Perhaps a bit disjointed in its presentation, the hour-long documentary is still an interesting take on a fascinating and introspective artist.

The Magick

A true magic master, McBride is a soaring authority on sleight of hand, conjuring methods and theatrical presentation. If you liked his "Magic At the Edge" DVD (please click here to read my review), this documentary provides additional insights through interviews and performance footage.

You'll learn about McBride's magic, as well as his Mystery School. There are also narratives that talk about the stages of the magician, fire circles and his participation in the "Burning Man" event. This DVD features some of the same footage as that shown on "Magic At the Edge." Also interviewed are Eugene Burger, Tobias Beckwith and Abbi Spinner.

The Mystery

For twenty bucks, you can spend an hour learning more about Jeff McBride. His always engaging presence and compelling magical and spiritual philosophy make this one worth watching.

MSRP: (US) $20
