Book Shows How to Create Holiday Themes in Your Show
Are we really nearing the holiday season again? Well, if you would like to add Christmas-themed elements to your stand-up show, the "Magic with a Christmas Theme" book is filled with ideas that can stimulate your creativity.
I can tell that Marc Dibowski speaks from experience and he dispenses solid advice. He mainly offers suggestions for themes that may be applied to your current stand-up material. This way, while you may have to dress up your props, you won't have to learn entire new routines. The book also teaches two routines: one with words that allows you form the words to a holiday carol, and may be used for other themes of your choosing; and another that involves a prediction and an advent calendar.
The book discusses marketed magic effects. I'm generally not fond of these props with images of reindeer and Santas and such. But I realize that they can have a place in many shows. The book also offers information about Christmas traditions in different countries. I'm sure that you already know the holiday traditions of your own country. This is really only useful if you're planning to perform elsewhere and quite honestly, the information is just a web search away.
I found the book most useful for providing ideas on adapting existing routines to holiday themes. As I read it, I came up with several ideas that I could apply to routines that I already perform. Those who are trying to apply a holiday theme to their shows may discover some great ideas within.
