JC Sum and "Magic Babe" Ning were recently voted best Stage/TV Magicians in our recent Readers' Choice Awards. We recently caught up with the busy pair:
Wayne Kawamoto: What was your reaction when you learned that Magic.About.com readers voted you Best Stage/TV Magicians?
JC Sum and "Magic Babe" Ning: We were surprised to say the least. When we first learned of the nomination, our main goal was just not to come in last (haha). As I wrote before, Ning and I feel that TV and Stage magicians are two completely different genres and it is difficult to put them in a single category. Also, the category could possibly be named "Favorite" as opposed to "Best." [David] Copperfield is in a league of his own and it is unlikely that anyone will surpass his contributions to magic. So in our book, he is the "Best."
WK: Anything you would like to say to readers?
JC Sum :We know a lot of About.com readers voted for us because they recognized what we have done in a short period of time (many told us this!). So, with that little "caveat" in place, when considering the"best stage magician," they felt we deserved a show of support. We really appreciate it and humbly accept this recognition for 2012 but feel that Magic.About.com should award Copperfield the Readers' Choice of the decade or past two decades!
Ning: Thanks to our fans, friends, family and readers of Magic.About.com for voting for us. Your kind gesture is encouraging and it is a vote of confidence to continue to work hard and put Singapore on the world map.
WK: Please tell us about your current and upcoming projects.
JC Sum and "Magic Babe" Ning: It will be a busy international rest of 2012 for us. We are heading to Saint Vincent, Italy for the Masters of Magic convention. We are featured artists in the gala show alongside other international magicians such as Uri Geller, Franz Harary, Jeff McBride and Ed Alonzo. After the convention, we travel to Rome to film a TV show. We then head to Indonesia in May to continue our South East Asia lecture tour.
In July, we will be headlining on a cruise ship in North Asia. In August, we will be in Genting, Malaysia in a production called "Superstars of Magic." In September, we are scheduled to be in the US on the West Coast for a few weeks. In October, we head to Paris to tape our second performance for Le Plus Grand Cabaret du Monde and in November we will be in 25 cities in Europe for our lecture tour. We still seem relatively free in December...
