100 Years of Pranks: S.S. Adams Co.

Wednesday September 27, 2006
It’s hard to imagine that there are any magicians out there who haven’t at one time, particularly when they were kids, owned an inexpensive magic prop produced by S.S. Adams Co. The novelty company that invented famous trick products such as the joy buzzer, the snake in-the-can and the water-squirting flower lapel is celebrating its 100th year this month.

I know that as I kid I owned such notables as: the Joy Buzzer, Razzberry Cushion, Dribble Glass, Ball & Vase, Bar Bug in Ice Cube, Deland's Deck of Cards, Magic Coin Box, Cups & Balls and the "101 Magic Tricks" Book. It’s a part of my childhood.

"They remind people of toys from their childhood, and they're timeless toys," says Deirdre Pieper in this article, an assistant buyer for a gift store in Albany, California. "We have kids and adults of all ages coming in to purchase them. Sometimes, I think the parents get as much of a kick from them as the kids."
