Harry Anderson to Leave New Orleans

Thursday August 31, 2006
Harry Anderson, the magician, comic and former star of television’s “Night Court” and “Dave’s World” announced that he will be leaving New Orleans.

Anderson has lived in New Orleans since 2000. A year ago, he and his wife rode out Hurricane Katrina in the French Quarter, in “Oswald’s Speakeasy,” their nightclub. Anderson had been using the venue to perform “Wise Guy,” his one man show. According to Anderson, tourists are few, and he and his wife have become captives to the depression that has gripped the devastated city. You can read more in the article.

I’m glad that he has finally decided to move. Katrina has left so many painful experiences in New Orleans that I guess the best way to start over again is to leave the place and go somewhere else. It will be a good start for him and the family.

As an elementary student, I read Louis Armstrong’s (probably inappropriate) autobiography. It captivated me and I determined to visit that part of the south one day. I did. On my honeymoon. We took our children the month before Katrina. I’m so thankful that we did. May God bless Harry and New Orleans.
