Illuminated UV ink and light form the basis of Ellusionist’s Scorpion system, a series of props, instruction and impressive effects. Brad Christian and his team have compiled a system that offers some intriguing possibilities.

As I mentioned in my review, I tried out the Scorpion wiregram at tonight’s (Thursday’s) restaurant gig. When the restaurant business slowed down, I performed in front on the sidewalk to draw in customers.

I dropped the wire into the planter behind me and used the Scorpion force card to force the appropriate icon. I only had a chance to perform the effect a few times, but it got a solid reaction. One spectator said it was “creepy,” and a couple of audience members uttered some profanities.

I think the key to making this effect work is to “find” the wire on the ground (this is shown on the DVD)-I also picked up other trash (cigarette butt, strip of paper, etc…) and pretended to think about using them before settling on the wire. After the effect, I casually straightened the wire and tossed it back into the planter as if it were a piece of trash to be discarded.
