Magician Challenges David Blaine

Sunday July 16, 2006
It’s been months since David Blaine emerged from his fish bowl and magician Curtis Lovee II is still chasing Blaine. In a recent release, Lovee stated that he is still awaiting Blaine’s response to his duel face-off challenge and furthermore, wants to challenge psychic John Edward’s supernatural abilities.

Challenges are great if there is something to actually be accomplished. Example: If the Liar Randi would meet me in a public forum and explain why he felt it necessary to lie when he rejected my challenge for his million dollar publicity stunt money. He owes me the money! The I.R.S. should investigate his so-called foundation. Bill Perron

It must be a slow news week in Magic…Curtis who?

(3) Wayne says:

Hello Bill:
I’d love to hear about your challenge. Can you talk about it?

Dennis: It wasn’t necessarily a slow news week, but the guy has a PR machine. Seemed worth mentioning.

Of course, Blaine is ignoring this challenge. He has absolutely NOTHING to gain by responding.

He is a joke

What a waste of a story. So what if a no-name magician challenges a well known magician. It’s when the well known magician challenges the little guys that it gets interesting.

I have watched Blaines tv shows. It looks like he uses trick camera work on some tricks, like his levitation trick. They don’t show his feet when his body rises, they don’t show his body when his feet is off the ground.

Wasn’t Lovee, Thurston Howell III’s wife’s name?
Anyway, I guess if you can’t deliver the goods, challenge someone who can. Besides, “beginner’s level tricks” is not the same as “beginner’s level ‘magic’”. Someone needs to go back to school. Tarbell would be a good place to start.

After going back and reading the article again I just had to comment on the fact that Mr. Lovee’s DVD title (Poof! You’re a Magician) says it all about his mindset. Knowing how to do tricks does not make you a magician. Making the audience “think” you are a magician is what “makes” you a magician. David Blaine does this. BTW why doesn’t Mr. Lovee challenge Lance Burton or Chriss Angel or Jay Sankey? Oh well.

It’s too bad that magicians who have made it big, regardless of whether or not you believe deserved it, are used by no names so the no name can make a name for himself.

I agree with you there Derek Lee. I’m personally sick of hearing various magicians ragging the whole time over David Blaine.. I respect the man and what he has achieved. He knows what the essence of magic is all about and his showmanship is excellent.. He is also making loads more cash than any of us, oh wait a second that’s why everyone is whining- jealousy.

I’m just interested to see what you have against Jay Sankey and Lance Burton..cuz they are top quality performers. I completely understand Chris Angel thoug…he just ticks me off..slurring fake rocker bon jovi rip-off wannabee with no talent…poorly executed slights.. ego maniac… I better stop now, I’m on the verve of being a hypocrite… I guess it boils down to meaningless personal opinions.

Challenging Blaine and Edwards are two very different things. Blaine is a performer while Edwards claims genuine supernatural abilities. Thus, I don’t care what happens between Lovee and Blaine, but I’ve been saying John Edwards was a psychologically damaging crock for years. What Edwards does is also disrespectful to the deceased; he puts words in the mouths of those who are not here to defend themselves.

Of course Edwards will never accept the challenge (as I’m sure neither will Blaine). Notheless, I commend Lovee for publicly calling Edwards out. It’s about time, although I don’t think Edwards is necessarily employing tricks; he’s just relying on guesswork, ambiguities, and his audience’s need to believe anything that gives them a shred of hope.

BlogUrMind: He’s been on ‘the simple life’ and many excellent magicians don’t have their own shows. Even Penn and Teller have their show for political commentary as opposed to magic.
