Sleight-of-hand Tale a 52-card Pickup

Monday March 27, 2006
This book review evaluates Karl Johnson's "The Magician and the Cardsharp: The Search for America's Greatest Sleight-of-Hand Artist." While the reviewer finds the subject, the story of the legendary Dai Vernon and his search for the legendary center deal, interesting, the reviewer feels that the book is full of padding. "The Magician and the Cardsharp is sort of like a 349-pound lady who only stands 5 feet tall; she may be gross but you can't help looking out of curiosity," says the reviewer.
